If a couple lives in a different city from their families and decides to get married, the question is where? Should the wedding be in the bride’s or in the groom’s city? The best solution is to do a Destination Wedding in Rome!
This was the choice of Ana and Javier, two Spanish doctors who have lived in many different cities before establishing in Madrid. They decided to celebrate theisr wedding in a very special way, organizing a trip to Rome with their families. Getting married in Rome, next to the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain is a dream that become true for Javier and Ana.
As a Wedding Photographer taking photos in another country is a very interesting challenge. Luckily I know quite well the capital of Italy, not only because I’m Italian, but because Rome is the city where my sister and many friends live. Every year I’m searching for an excuse to travel to this wonderful city, and this year it was for a good one: taking some wedding photos of Ana and Javier.
The couple invited their families for a trip for their wedding without telling where they where going. They met at the airport and at the last moment the mystery was solved and the surprise served. They were all travelling to Rome! and the chosen destiny was a great success, all of the parents where delighted.
The couple stayed with their families in an Hotel next to Villa Borghese, very close to the center of the city. The wedding day Ana and Javier got ready in different rooms, and maintained the tradition of not seeing each other until the wedding. Ana is a romantic and smart girl, she choose a very elegant dress at the same time not so big to be impossible to bring with her in the plane. Javier dressed in a classic suit.
The wedding was celebrated in the Spanish Council in Rome, in the center of the city and Javier was the first to arrive. Soon the bride arrived and the two entered in the palace where a very intimate and emotive ceremony was celebrated with their families and the officiant.
After the ceremony we went outside to discover some of the most incredible places to photograph in Rome. During the ceremony a storm arrived, but…. don’t panic! We opened our umbrellas and we moved to places we had prepared for this cases. A good wedding photographer should always be ready for any situation, rain included. Always look on the bright side of life! I took rain as an occasion to take some romantic photos avoiding the tourists crowds.
The rain was light and did not affect at all the happiness of the couple. Ana and Javier walked smiling through the streets of Rome, opening an umbrella when it rained and receiving all the time congratulations from the people around. The biggest danger where the shoes of Javier. A new pair of
leather shoes happens to be quite slippery in contact with rain and the stones of Rome’s streets, also known as the city of the seven hills. But Javier did not stop in front of the danger, trusting in the help of his wife. The two walked almost embraced in the most difficult moments.
We visited many places in Rome, Piazza Montecitorio, El Pantheon until we arrived to the Biblioteca Alessandrina, a building protected by rain and without turists. There we could take some more portraits in a comfortable space before going to the restaurant where Ana and Javier encountered their families. We decided to meet again in the afternoon next to the Colosseum to take some more photos with the sunset.
Following Ana and Javier in their destination wedding has been one of the more exciting adventures I had in my work. It was really great to work with a couple like this. Thank you for trusting me, it has been a great pleasure to be your wedding photographer. This is just a small selection of the photos done in Rome, I hope you enjoy them!
